New Publications from SHP
2007 sees the first of a host of major new SHP publishing, beginning with CDs for GCSE Development and Depth Studies and moving on next year to our ground-breaking KS3 resources. And after that there'll be even more new GCSE material.
So here to start, there are the Medicine and Germany CDs that are now available - plus what's coming in the near future.
CDs for Medicine & Health through Time

Guaranteed to get your heart beat going! Exploring what we can do on CD to support teachers of medicine has been really exciting.

We began by thinking how to use features of the ‘white book’ on screen – great for that brilliant artwork and activity on 14th century London or the decision-making activity ‘Can you survive in Ancient Rome?’
....Then we brought in new material – images and newsreel - asking students to create their own web-pages or make moviemaker stories on public health.
....And then we realized we could embed short pieces of film into activities so you can use scenes and artefacts from the Thackray Museum in your own classroom or predict how Sir Edward Redmayn will choose to be bled by his surgeon.
...And then - oh just look at it for yourselves!
We hope this will be really helpful to teachers, motivating for students and enjoyable for all.

CDs for Crime & Punishment through Time

The most frequently asked question is:
‘When are we going to get more resources for teaching ‘Crime and Punishment’?’
Well, here they are – two activity-packed CDs which will do wonders for classroom enthusiasm, motivation and achievement. From the first decision-making activity on catching a medieval thief through the story of highwayman James MacClaine to using a naughty monkey to learn about protests, there’s a very wide range of topic-based activities and that’s before you get to the themes, quizzes, chronology activities, Top Trumps cards and an extensive image bank for using in whichever ways you wish.
Like the other CDs we hope this will be really helpful to teachers, motivating for students and enjoyable for all.

CD for Germany 1918–1945
Now available [ click here ]

Take one enormously successful textbook, renowned for its thoroughness and effectiveness. Take one cutting edge IT developer and history educator in Ben Walsh, full of enthusiasm for making a good book even better on screen. Mix the two and the result is a stunning collection of material to enliven classrooms, motivate students, make material more accessible – and raise standards of achievement.

And coming in 2008

SHP’s new series for the revised KS3 Programme of Study
Eds: Dale Banham, Chris Culpin, Ian Dawson
We’ve been working on this since long before the first NC drafts were published so we’ve had the great advantage of being able to re-think and try out ideas and activities over a couple of years.
Year 7 Resources - to be published February 08
We nearly published in 2006 but decided to hold it back and revise yet again – and it’s been well worth it with even more improvements and refinements and links to active learning on this site. Having written and edited nearly 80 books I’ve no doubt that this is the material that most excites me because it’s doing something – several things in fact – genuinely different.
