CPD for A Level Teachers
Courses on teaching history at A level focus on developing teaching strategies commonly used at KS3 in order to raise students standards of achievement at A Level and increase students' enjoyment and motivation.
The day is based around a series of models of activity, each of which is demonstrated and discussed in terms of:
- what are students learning
- how the model can be adapted to other topics
The topics exemplified are taken from a variety of A level specifications. But in advance of a course it is helpful if I have a list of content areas covered by teachers so that the most appropriate range of examples can be planned and to arrange for teachers to sit in groups that facilitate discussion of how to adapt examples to their particular content.
Ideally courses would be held for between 18 and 24 teachers but smaller or larger groups are viable!
Exemplar Day Course
This outline is based on a course run at Washington, Co. Durham, on behalf of the Specialist Schools Trusts.
The models listed were exemplified by a range of content from the 15th to 20th centuries. Each session contains time for groups to brainstorm adaptations for their specification content.
It is structured around a series of models of activity, each of which is demonstrated and discussed.
The topics listed below are examples and can be varied if wished.
