The performance of the new search facility will be ‘hit and miss’ for a while. It's powered by Google and it won't work effectively until the site has been 're-spidered' (no idea what that means but it sounds impressive!)
Currently it's 'finding' old pdfs and old htm pages that have been removed or are being replaced. If it helps, new pages are all html (rather than htm).
Please be patient - I'm assured it will be working fine in a few weeks. Meanwhile, sorry for the irritation.
